CBT therapy across Wales

Wales does not have NHS Talking Therapies — that's an England-specific service. Instead, CBT in Wales is accessed through your GP and Local Primary Mental Health Support Services (LPMHSS), which sit inside each Welsh health board.

The seven health boards (Aneurin Bevan, Cardiff and Vale, Cwm Taf Morgannwg, Hywel Dda, Powys, Swansea Bay, Betsi Cadwaladr) each run their own primary mental health teams. You access them through your GP, who can refer you for an assessment that often includes CBT-informed work. Waits vary significantly by board — Cardiff and Swansea typically faster, rural Powys and parts of north Wales slower.

Private CBT is well-established in Cardiff, Swansea, Newport and Wrexham, typically £70–£100. A growing number of Welsh-speaking CBT therapists offer sessions in Cymraeg — easier to find in Gwynedd, Ceredigion and parts of north Wales.
