CBT therapy across Scotland

Scotland's NHS structure is different. There is no NHS Talking Therapies; instead, CBT is delivered through Primary Care Mental Health Teams within each Health Board, and through specialist psychology services for more complex presentations.

Routes vary by board. NHS Lothian, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, NHS Lanarkshire and others now offer some self-referral routes for guided self-help; for higher-intensity 1:1 CBT, you typically go via your GP. Computerised CBT through Beating the Blues and Silvercloud is freely available across most boards.

Private CBT in Edinburgh and Glasgow runs £80–£110; Aberdeen and Dundee £70–£100; the Highlands £70–£95, though in-person availability is limited outside Inverness. Online CBT delivered by a Scottish-based therapist familiar with local NHS pathways is often the most practical option outside the central belt.
